ZORAN SAVIC was born on November 18th, 1966 in Zenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
From 1992 he chose Barcelona as his hometown, where he lives with his wife Anita and their daughter Marija. Meanwhile, during his basketball career he travelled all around the world and lived all around Europe – ex-Yugoslavia, Spain, Greece, Italy, Turkey – and every time his family was a part of it. He used to play in the center position – 206 cm, 116 kg – showing a strong character on the court, then he was one of the first big-men to double his role, adding a great shooting ability from the arc.
So he became one of the greatest players and then one of the most recognized and respected General Managers in Europe. He only started playing basketball at 16, but thanks to his strong desire and hard-working mental attitude that he immediately demonstrated on the basketball court, he practically jump started his career: at the same time playing with three different teams (A2 and juniors with Capljna, B with Zenica) and practicing 8 hours per day. So, in 1989 from B division he became European Champion with Jugoplastika and World Champion with Yugoslavia.
On the court, Zoran Savic played for the top teams of Europe, and he won everything and everywhere: overall, he won 19 finals out of 21 played, between Clubs and his National Team. He was named MVP of Euroleague finals 1998. These incomparable results perfectly show how important he was for the teams he played for, bringing at the same time strength in defense, killer instinct in offense and most of all his character into the locker-room.
Zoran Savic also brought those values off the court. Starting a new career as General Manager in 2005 and immediately continuing to win: with Fortitudo Bologna, he ran a three year project (2002-2005, then 2008-2009) bringing a very young team to play the Euroleague Final 2004 and win the Italian Championship 2005. And with FC Barcelona (2005-2008), he went on to reach the Euroleague Final Four 2006 and winning the Copa del Rey 2007.
Outside the court Zoran is involved in other meaningful activities, such as being a founding member of the Group Seven Children’s Foundation. He finally founded INVICTUS Sports Group on the same basis and values. As a result of his rich and unconquered career experience Zoran Savic has all the answers and advice a young athlete would need in order to make his journey easier, as Zoran has already successfully walked this path himself.
